Almondell Shetlands is a family run stud situated on the outskirts of Edinburgh, tucked away in the valley of the River Almond from which our name is derived.

We have an established herd of registered standard ponies with excellent pedigrees boasting a variety of colours and we are now proudly producing homebred stock of show quality and substance with true native characteristics.

Shetland ponies are renowned for their hardiness and strength. Our foundation stock was carefully selected with the advice and guidance of several long established studs.

It is based on the very best breeding, mainly Wells, Harviestoun and Marshwood bloodlines which, we feel provides us with good strong bone.

Our aim is to breed ponies with correct conformation, exceptional movement, presence and a kind temperament.

We pride ourselves on our Shetlands being friendly and easy to handle.

From birth every pony has plenty of attention and handling, making them well mannered and a pleasure to own. We have ponies suitable for riding, driving, in-hand showing or pets.

Through showing and breeding our ponies we have made great friends from studs north and south, whose advice and guidance has been invaluable to us.
